I’ve decided to share some of my favorite blogs, beginning today with one from Japan.

Dosanko Debbie , who lives in the hard-hit northern part of the country, had this to say yesterday:

After the Great Hanshin Earthquake of ’95, many of the relocated elderly survivors simply lost their will to live. It had been snuffed out in part by loss of community ties and that which was familiar. The will to live is a mysterious thing. Sometimes fragile. Sometimes tenacious. Frequently tested. Always precious. Surviving the disaster itself is only the beginning.”

Exquisite expression, and if you visit her blog you can see the exquisite artwork she does in the traditional Japanese form called etegami.
